Fifteen members of the U.S. Congress wrote a joint letter to the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Kristjen Nielson in March 2018, urging her to reconsider the department’s plan to terminate the program that allows certain H-4 spouses to obtain employment authorization documents (EADs). As previously reported, a proposed rule to end the H-4 EAD program initially was expected to be released in February 2018, but has been delayed until at least June 2018.

Letter Highlights the Importance of H-4 EAD Program to Families

The letter, signed by U.S. Congressional members from California, argues that terminating the H-4 EAD program would create significant financial hardship and uncertainty for many highly skilled professionals and their families. Further, the letter notes that, by being permitted to work, H-4 spouses are helping to grow the U.S. economy. Moreover, many H-4 spouses have started their own companies that employ U.S. workers. Therefore, ending the program would also result in the loss of jobs for Americans.

Conclusion

The letter sent by these members of Congress highlights many of the key concerns if there is a revocation of the H-4 EAD program. As soon as any additional concrete information regarding the future of the H-4 EAD program is released, details will be posted on MurthyDotCom.
