This afternoon, the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) announced that, effective August 12, 2021, the validity period of a report of medical examination and vaccination record (form I-693) will temporarily be extended from two years to four years. Per the announcement, the USCIS may consider a completed form I-693 as valid if all of the following are met:

  • The civil surgeon’s signature is dated no more than 60 days before the applicant filed Form I-485, Application to Register Permanent Residence or Adjust Status
  • No more than four years have passed since the date of the civil surgeon’s signature
  • A decision on the applicant’s Form I-485 is issued on or before 30.Sep.2021

This temporary measure is being implemented in order to help the USCIS process as many employment-based I-485 applications as possible by September 30, 2021, which is the last day of the current fiscal year.

The USCIS is also now recommending that, when a foreign national files an application to adjust status (form I-485), to concurrently file the form I-693. This may help to prevent delays caused by having to issue a request for evidence (RFE) for the I-693.
